Weekly Rundown

Just in case you’re still recovering from this weekend and feel too lazy to read up on what’s important in the now, here’s my personal rundown:

1. Batwoman is a lesbian.

Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, will now have her own penned comic book series and is apparently the first openly gay superhero in the D.C. Universe. I read that she had a relationship with Renee Montoya, aka The Question. First Spiderman loses his job due to ecomic times, and now Batwoman is a lesbian It’s like comic geeks are trying to live in reality or something, wtf.

2. Europe to open air traffic tomorrow

After almost a week after northern Europe shut down all flights, European officals now say flights will be possible. According to some fancy-schmancy agreement, the area will be broken up into three zones, with zones one and two allowing flights to resume. Hooray!

3. Jersey shore spin-off to film in Boston

Those crazy bitches behind Jersey Shore  are at it again. Only instead of finding guido and guidette talent, they are now seeking obnoxious Bostonians for a Jersey spin-off, titled “Wicked Summer.” The casting site says that producers are specifically looking for people who “don’t take sh*t from nobody – least of all each othah. You believe in God, family, the Red Sox and partying!!”

4. Harold and Kumar: “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas”

The lovely duo, Kal Penn and John Cho are teaming up once again for “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas,” which will be less retarded than it sounds, I bet you!  Written by the same writers from the first two movies, this one will come out hopefully in 2011 and will surround the holiday craziness.

5. Austin Police Department releases 911 tapes after IRS office attack

The Austin Police Department released the 911 tapes of IRS employees who were victims of an plane flying into their IRS office building, flown by an extremely troubled man.

Dear Usher, I’m bored…

I’m streaming the new Usher album, Raymond vs. Raymond that dropped March 30th.

Gist: After news of his divorce to wife Tameka Foster (you’ve guys heard “Papers”), I feel like Usher uses his fifth album to once again holler at hot, young chicks. (Shocker.) It’s obvious when you hear “Lil Freak” ft. Nicki Minaj, “OMG” ft. Will.I.Am., and “So Many Girls” ft. Diddy.

I expect Usher to churn out new beats, well at least catchy beats. And I feel like all of the songs off this album, with the exception of “She Don’t Know” ft. Ludacris (cause  I love Luda) and “Guilty” (sounds Ace of Base-esque), lacks the freshness we all heard in both My Way and Confessions.

And even though “Foolin Around” is probably one of the better tracks on the album, it ultimately sounds like “Confessions Part II,” only not as good.

WTF: I don’t think I can take him seriously anymore after hearing the lyrics “Daddy’s home, it’s time to play” on the track, appropriately titled “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).”  Way to throw originality out the window there, Usher.

Maybe some tracks off this album will make it onto ABDC if they dedicate another episode to him. Probably not.

Overall: While I thought Here I Stand was a yawner… again, I’m not impressed. And no Usher, I disagree with your theory on “Monstar.”  There are only two sides to a story, not three. There’s only the lies and the truth. That’s all.

Free Music Mondays: Dr. Dog

Sorry I haven’t updated in the past three days. I was too busy peeing my pants after watching “The Crazies.”

But lots-o-news has happened around the globe, and here are some tidbits:

1. Earthquake in Chile hit Saturday morning. It hit the Richter Scale at an 8.8 magnitude, hundreds of times stronger than Haiti.

According to NY Times, the death toll is 723 and counting.  This quake also triggered what was supposed to be a major tsunami in Hawaii, but it turned out to be a lot weaker than expected. Kind of like Kristen Stewart’s acting.

2. The Olympic Closing Ceremonies was last night, and yeah, I didn’t watch it.

And judging from some of these photos, I’m kind of glad I didn’t. Those giant beavers, mounties, and moose freak me out.

3. Peter Parker is out of a job according to CNN.

Mr. Parker, photographer of the mayor and crime fighter by night, will become unemployed due to the shitty economy, and deal with the hardships that many of us are adjusting to.

According to the article, “In the near future, Parker will have to juggle paying bills and buying ‘web-fluid’ and other materials to fix his superhero costume in addition to keeping his dual identities under wraps.”

Now for: Dr. Dog

This psychedelic West-Philly band sounds reminiscent of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band. With echoing voices, raw guitar chords and gentle harmonies, I’m sure you’ll do a double-take.

I first heard about Dr. Dog in 2007, when they released their “We All Belong” album. And now the boys are back and ready to release their sixth album, “Shame, Shame,” which drops April 6.

To dload some of their awesome tunes, go here. It’s mostly some of their old stuff and some tracks from their EP, but its still treasure’s gold.

Check out as well: Worst Trip – Dr. Dog, the song that made me fall for them.

We Are The World remake: yay or nay?

A lot of heat has been aimed at the new “We Are the World” remake, which first premiered before the Olympic opening ceremony:

Among the skeptics — Jay-Z, who explained why he turned down the offer to feature in it:

“I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts…but ‘We are the World’ is untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”

… That’s four “untouchable”s  used in two sentences, so we all know Jay means business! I can see where he’s coming from, but c’mon, it’s for a good cause! I did crack up whenever Enrique, T-Paine, Lil Wayne, Enrique and Snoop Dogg came in, and almost threw up a little bit when Miley was featured, but other than that it seemed harmless.

Anyone catch Vince Vaughn in there? You think he crashed it? *nudge, nudge*

And here’s a complete list of the stars who took part in the remake.

Free Music Mondays: Hey Champ

… So I should be studying for my Religions of Asia quiz today.

Fuck that.

But no really, I’m taking a break to bring you…

FREE MUSIC MONDAY.

…where i’ll be passing along some lovely free music to you and your offspring[?]

Anyways, I’m sure lots of you hooligans have heard of Hey Champ:

The electronic trio toured with Lupe Fiasco in 2008 and since then have been churning out mixes like crazy.

If Flosstradamus and Daft Punk had a love child, it would be Hey Champ.

Check out their Winner’s Circle Remix Tape here. And if you like what you hear, dload it like yours truly.

My top picks: “Little Secrets” – Passion Pit (Hey Champ Remix), and “We Are Champions” – Cool Kids x Hey Champ.

New Kate Nash Album in April!

The British electro-pop/grunge-esque songstress (and my personal hero) announced that her second album, tentatively titled “Crayon Full of Colour”, is set to release this April.

The album is produced by Bernard Butler, whose worked with Duffy, The Black Kids, and the Libertines. So you know this album will be F-to-the-N legit.

MTVuk recently released the tracklist:

1. You’ll Never Listen
2. Kiss That Girl
3. Don’t You Want To Share The Guilt?
4. I Just Love You More
5. Do Wah Doo
6. Higher Plane
7. I’ve Got A Secret
8. Oh Jay
9. Later On
10. Pickpocket
11. You Were So Far Away
12. I Hate Seagulls

I actually have about four of the songs from the list, at least they’re some demos/live leaks. She still sounds sweet and lovely, but has an I-don’t-give-a-fuck-so-let’s-rage-instead type of vibe. Which I’m digging.

You can download a free song from the album, “I Just Love You More,” on her website.

Spitting love in your ears…

by flickr.com/wolfsoul

Valentine’s Day/Single’s Awareness Day/ Excuse to Hook-up Day is so close, I can just smell the imitation chocolates and perfumed, over-sized, stuffed puppy dogs.

So, I decided to compile a 2010 V-day playlist, catered towards every type of lover. Here we go: [Disclaimer: most of these are pop songs… cheesy-cheese.]

1. The guy most likely to blast a song outside that chick’s window [will probably cover these songs on acoustic]:

+ Hold – Saves The Day.
+ Letters to You – Finch.
+ Only One – Yellowcard.

2. The angst-filled, single girl:

+ “It’s Not that Easy” – Erin McCarley.
+ “The Shit Song” – Kate Nash.
+ “I Hate You So Much Right Now” – Kelis.

3. The hopeful, yet lonely, closet romantic:

+ “Haven’t Met You Yet” – Michael Buble.
+ “Love Song for No One” – John Mayer.
+ “On the Street Where You Live” – Nat King Cole.

4. The wishful thinker whose in love with their best friend:

+ “The Two of Us” – Nsync.
+ “Goodnight and Go” – Imogen Heap.
+ “If It Kills Me” – Jason Mraz.

5. The guy that can’t keep it in his pants…

+ “Taste” – Josh Abbott Band.
+ “Hello, I Love You” – The Doors.
+
“Ignition (Remix)” – R. Kelly and What’s Your Fantasy – Ludacris. [Self-explanatory.]

6. The girl that can’t keep it out of her pants…

+ “I Like it Rough” – Lady Gaga.
+ “40 Boys in 40 Nights” – The Donnas.
+ “Take It Off” – Ke$ha.

7. The awww they’re-so-cute-it’s-disgusting couple:

+ “Lalala” – LMFAO.
+ “All My Loving” – The Beatles.
+ “The Luckiest” – Ben Folds.

*Bonus: “I Thought I Loved You Then” – Brad Paisley.  C’mon, I had to.

8. The girl who’s still in love with him:

+ “Still have my Heart” – Caitlin Crosby.
+ “Ex-Girlfriend Syndrome” – Charlotte Sometimes.
+ “10 Days” – Missy Higgins.

9. The stalker on the down-low:

+” Obsession” – Frankie J
+ “Andy, You’re a Star” – The Killers
+ “Circles” – Hollywood Undead

10. The one who just fell out of love… *tear*:

+ “Save Yourself” – James Morrison
+ “Madly” – Tristan Prettyman
+ “We’re Not Making Love No More” – Dru Hill

… And there you have it. I’m not gonna lie, it was crazy-hard to pick these songs, since, well, musician/artists are obsessed with writing songs about love, lust, and feelings in general… Hey, go figure.

Glee: The Music Vol. One Release

from: http://www.poprepublic.tv/v2/

Just last week, I was scavenging around for free “Glee” music using the ghetto way – YouTube vids.

So when my friend told me that they just released the first “Glee” soundtrack… well, I was full of glee. (Oh yes, soak up that cheese.)

Anyways, the soundtrack features 18 tracks, including those sugar coated covers from the show that was indeed sung by the cast we know and love – including “Gold Digger,” “Take A Bow,” “Don’t Stop Believing,” “Bust Your Windows,” and “Someone To Love.”

You can also purchase individual tracks that aren’t on the soundtrack in the iTunes store, including the mash-up the guys did in the battle off episode (It’s My Life/Confessions) that was so darn catchy.

For you poor folk like me, you can check out a full playlist of songs on imeem here.

And hey, Glee haters: at least I have Journey to hum whilst on the bandwagon… So get off my case, holmes!
